New job, new server, ditching Windows, Thanksgiving trip

So, I got a new job. I passed my Series 7 Exam and started working with a financial advisory firm. Yay!

I started at the very end of September, and now it’s November. It’s taken about a month, but I’m finally feeling the ball’s momentum. It’ll get faster, and pretty soon I’ll be making some money again. I’m looking forward to that 🙂

In other news, I’ve been doing more in homelabbing again. I finally set up what I call “The 2015 Machine.” It has an AMD APU A10-7870K and 32GB DDR3 Ram. Pretty low specs, but it is at least enough to run a Minecraft server, and hopefully enough for me and my friends. Additionally, I also acquired a new router. I really don’t like the ISP provided router, so I bought a Linksys WRT3200ACM router from Facebook Marketplace for $40 and booted Open Wrt on it. It only had 54.99 MiB of storage, so I installed a 16 GB Flash Drive for more storage and added AdGuard Home as a DNS adblocker. So far, it’s working great 🙂

Other than that, I am finally ditching Windows 11. I bought a cheap 256 GB NVMe drive off Facebook Marketplace from a homeless person, and I will use it as my OS drive. I don’t like how the OS is in the same drive as important data and information, so I will physically segregate it from everything else. I’m thinking I will install Bazzite OS; it’s pretty popular for gaming, especially Gaming Handhelds. I’m excited 🙂

For the immediate future, I have a Thanksgiving trip soon. I’m excited for it, it’ll be a nice break from work. I’ve been going pretty hard at this for over a month now, and I need time to chill and breath.

Alright, that’s enough for now. Until next time 🙂

I got a website up and running

So that’s pretty cool I think.

I suppose I can just use this to post stuff, update my life and all… That’ll be fun I guess.

Here’s some of my accomplishments so far in the year 2025:

  • Got displaced from a government job due to Executive Order 14158.
  • Started dating someone who changed my life
  • Worked in door-to-door sales for a bit
  • Passed the LAH Exam in Texas, so now I’m a life insurance agent
  • Passed the SIE Exam
  • More to come : )

Oh, and homelabbing is a big passion of mine now. I love this. Self-hosting all my own media, taking control of my digital life… It’s good stuff. Big shout to Howie for starting me on this journey.

Anyway, I gotta get going for a bit
